Abstract

This study investigates the competitiveness of Pakistan’s rice exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between 2005 and 2023 using the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index. RCA results are reported after the descriptive statistical analysis. Results indicate that Pakistan has maintained a strong position in the UAE market, with RCA scores consistently above 20 and reaching 119.24 in 2022. Despite fluctuations in export volumes, Pakistan outperforms competitors such as India and Vietnam, which register medium and small RCA values, respectively. However, inconsistent export trends, regional rivalry, and supply chain inefficiencies threaten Pakistan’s market share. The findings underscore the need for strategic actions to enhance quality control, optimize logistics, and diversify markets. Addressing these challenges will enable Pakistan to sustain and expand its rice export potential in the UAE, reinforcing its role as a key supplier in this high-value market and other destinations.
