Abstract

The advancement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its integration in education as a transformative tool for language use has transformed modern education system. A number of studies are available exploring ways in which ChatGPT provides scaffolding however, limited research is available on exploring neuro-cognitive aspect of scaffolding provided by ChatGPT among intermediate students, in Pakistan. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the change in neural mechanism of students that enhances linguistic creativity through digital scaffolding, guided by the principles of Cognitive Load Theory and Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory. The findings of the study revealed that scaffolding provided by ChatGPT, facilitated in schema building and idea generation. Thus, major improvements in vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar were notable in student’s writing as intrinsic and extraneous load was reduced along with enhanced engagement of Broca’s and Wernicke’s area. The study concludes that even limited exposure to digital scaffolding can improve linguistic and cognitive growth among students and tools like ChatGPT can be used to foster creativity in language learning.
