Framing the Israel-Palestine Conflict in Pakistani Print Media: A Multimodal Perspective

Print media discourses are considered one of the best sites for ideological investment and framing reality in a desired manner. They can shape the mind set of the target audience accordingly. The present study has attempted to analyze linguistic and semiotic modes employed in the daily Dawn to represent the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The data for the study was collected from the selected Pakistani English newspaper. It is delimited to the analysis of the semiotics which appeared in the newspaper from January 2024 to October 2024. The selected semiotic discourses were analyzed at linguistic and semiotic levels. The methodological premise was designed by drawing upon Fairclough and Framing theory by Entman. This study finds that Israel has been represented negatively through the use ideologically loaded linguistic and semiotic devices and techniques. The concept of Otherization has also plaid up through linguistic and semiotic moves. The research contends that print media discourses are very handy to position the people belonging to in/ out group. Desired ideology can be propagated through the subtle use of language. it emphasized solidarity with Palestinian struggles and condemned systemic violence and global inaction.
