Abstract

In rural enclaves such as Gilgit's Bagrot Valley, ways of life have changed dramatically under the swift proliferation of contemporary technologies. The paper examines the complex effects such technological incursions hold on long-standing cultural practices. That is, the case looks at how technology that is basically helpful is strengthening or tearing indigenous customs apart. The nature of the research is more susceptible to explaining the complexities by which traditional livelihoods are disrupted or reshaped, such as shifting economic pursuits, redefining skills, and new agricultural practices that diverge from generations. It also researches these changing dynamics of interpersonal relationships within the community due to the manner in which technology is remodelling social connections and communication networks. This study focuses on how technology impacts day-to-day lives and daily living decisions. It would bring to the surface, through these lines, how patterns of life change when more efficiency and convenience occur within habits. Qualitatively, interviews were carried with sixteen residents to make such a highly detailed portrayal possible by revealing potential consequences, that would not only show how much deeper a probe as to why technology is the same scourge that facilitates entrenched customs but also exactly how that weak balance exists between cultural conservation and assimilation into technology in the first place. Anchoring the microcosm of the study in Bagrot Valley, hopes are to present a wide-ranging understanding of the balancing acts that the daily lives of rural communities all over the world would be experiencing as heritage and modernity converge.
