Abstract

Drug addiction has raised as a pressing social problem in Pakistan which is deeply embedded in changing structure of the family and weakening social bond. The present study investigates the association between family disorganization and the growing trend of drug addiction among youth in Faisalabad. This research observes how parental neglect, broken family, domestic conflict, and lack of supervision lead towards youth vulnerability and substance abuse. The information and data were gathered by questionnaire which is administered to a purposive sample of 200 participants from various rehabilitation centers and urban communities in City Faisalabad. The findings of the research point out a strong relationship between dysfunctional family environment and drug dependency among young people. Moreover, it is concluded from the study that family cohesion, communication and involvement of parents play a significant role in preventing substance abuse. The present study also recommends strengthening family institution, promoting awareness programs and integrating family counseling in rehabilitation efforts to mitigate youth drug addiction in urban areas.
